A highly respected Intellectual Property boutique law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Prosecution Paralegal to join its growing Dallas office. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in U.S. patent prosecution. This role offers the opportunity to manage sophisticated patent portfolios while working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment focused exclusively on intellectual property law.
Responsibilities
Patent Prosecution Support
- Prepare and electronically file U.S. patent applications, responses, Information Disclosure Statements (IDS), assignments, powers of attorney, declarations, and other USPTO filings.
- Monitor patent prosecution matters from filing through issuance.
- Review USPTO correspondence and identify critical deadlines.
- Prepare draft responses to Office Actions and assist attorneys throughout the prosecution process.
- Coordinate domestic and international patent filings with foreign associates.
- Prepare and file formal documents with the USPTO while ensuring compliance with filing requirements.
- Assist with patent portfolio maintenance and ongoing prosecution activities.
Docket & Portfolio Management
- Monitor and maintain patent prosecution deadlines using the firm's docketing system.
- Audit patent portfolios to ensure matters remain current and compliant.
- Review docket reports and communicate upcoming deadlines to attorneys and clients.
- Maintain accurate electronic case files and document management records.
Client & Administrative Support
- Communicate professionally with inventors, clients, foreign associates, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
- Prepare correspondence, reports, and status updates for clients.
- Organize and maintain patent files and supporting documentation.
- Assist attorneys with legal research, document review, and administrative support.
- Support additional intellectual property projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of Patent Prosecution Paralegal experience.
- Prior experience supporting intellectual property attorneys in a law firm is required.
- Strong knowledge of USPTO patent prosecution procedures and deadlines.
- Experience preparing and filing U.S. patent applications and related prosecution documents.
- Experience coordinating foreign patent filings is a plus.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience with patent docketing and document management software preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong client service orientation and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
